Foot Locker is no longer moving its headquarters to Florida, reversing course after its acquisition by Dick’s Sporting Goods.
St. Petersburg city development administrator James Corbett informed the city council this week that the relocation plan, first announced in August 2023, has been dropped.
Foot Locker had already signed a 110,998-sq.-ft. long-term lease for the new site.
“Following the acquisition, the company reevaluated its corporate strategy and decided not to move forward with relocating its global headquarters to St. Petersburg,” Corbett wrote in the memo.
Foot Locker will remain based in New York City. The reversal follows Dick’s $2.4 billion deal for the retailer, which closed in early September.
The combined company now operates more than 3,200 stores across 20 countries, plus licensed locations in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Dick’s continues to run Foot Locker’s full brand portfolio, including Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Champs Sports, WSS and Atmos, under new leadership.
Dick’s executive chairman Ed Stack is now overseeing the business, while former Foot Locker CEO Mary Dillon has departed. Ann Freeman, a 26-year Nike veteran, has been appointed president of Foot Locker North America.
