Online grocery retailer Instacart has promoted Chris Rogers, the current Chief Business Officer to the role of CEO, effective on August 15.
He succeeds Fidji Simo, who left the role to join OpenAI Applications as CEO but will stay on as chairman of Instacart’s board to assist with the transition.
Rogers brings years of experience to the role, having previously joined as Instacart’s VP of global retail in 2019, and has spent three years serving in his current position.
Additionally, he worked at Apple for 11 years in a number of positions, including managing director of Apple Canada and head of carrier channel.
Simo said: “Over the last four years, we’ve transformed Instacart into a growing, profitable, leading technology platform that’s helping reshape the grocery industry.
“We’re building a generational company at the intersection of technology and food, and Chris is the right leader for our next chapter.”
During his time at the company, Rogers has led the e-commerce company’s commercial operations, including retailer relationships and expansions and the Instacart Business and Instacart Health operations.
Moving forward, he will take the helm of the company as CEO and oversee the business operations.
Rogers added: “Together with our partners, we’re transforming the future of grocery shopping, but more importantly, we’re helping people solve real, everyday needs.
“We have a world-class team, deep partnerships, leading technology, and a bold vision for the future, and I’m honored to step in and lead Instacart’s next chapter.”
In April, Instacart introduced a same-day delivery service, which aimed to streamline operations and support business customers who needed fast and flexible fulfillment.
The online grocery retailer also posted strong first-quarter results in May, with its revenue going up by 9% to $897 million and orders increasing by 14% to 83.2 million.
