Carter’s selects former Vans executive Douglas Palladini as new CEO

Children’s retailer Carter’s has appointed former global brand president of Vans Douglas Palladini as its new president and CEO, effective 3 April 2025.

Palladini has over 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles and previously led Vans’ expansion plans, including diversifying product assortment in more than 100 countries.

Additionally, Palladini doubled Van’s global revenue to $4.2 billion in less than six years and strategically grew the apparel and accessories sector to almost 20% of sales.

His appointment follows the retirement of former CEO Michael Casey after 15 years in the position.

Richard Westenberger, Carter’s senior EVP, CFO, and COO, has acted as interim CEO since 28 February.

William Montgoris, non-executive chairman of the board, said: “Doug’s remarkable track record of growing brands, his deep understanding of consumer-driven strategies, and his expertise in creating global brand connections will be invaluable as we continue to build upon Carter’s strong foundation.

“Under Doug’s leadership, Carter’s will continue to innovate, strengthen our unique, multichannel business model, and stay true to our mission of providing high-quality, affordable apparel for young children.”

The appointment aligns with the children’s apparel retailer’s goals to boost its direct-to-consumer and wholesale businesses, enhance customer loyalty, and expand its global footprint.

Palladini said: “I am eager to continue to advance the important work underway in our retail and wholesale businesses, further build upon Carter’s brand equity, and create lasting connections with our customers through accelerated relevance, inspiring products, and meaningful storytelling.”

The retailer aims to focus on innovation and customer engagement to solidify its relationship with customers worldwide, recently rebranding its brand look and introducing modernized apparel to appeal to younger shoppers.

Carter’s currently operates a portfolio of brands sold, including OshKosh B’Gosh, Little Planet, and Skip Hop.
