Dollar Tree has reached the milestone of 40 years of operations, marking the occasion with a $40m investment in a charitable foundation across the US and Canada.
Additionally, the discounter opened its 9500th store in Suffolk, Virginia, and marked the ceremony with a community cleanup joined by 100 staff members.
The discount retailer supplies over 100m US households annually with the mission of providing affordable items across a wide range of everyday essentials and seasonal goods.
Dollar Tree launched The Impact Fund, which will assist people in need across three areas: food and everyday essentials, economic opportunities, and creating cleaner and safer community spaces.
The retailer plans to execute the charitable initiative with programs alongside its nonprofit partners and fund over 400 community impact projects across the US.
Mike Creedon, CEO of Dollar Tree said: “Forty years ago, Dollar Tree started right here in Hampton Roads with a simple promise to deliver unbeatable value, convenience, and thrill-of-the-hunt discovery.
“Today, 9,500 stores later, that promise is stronger than ever. As we look to the future, we’re proud to build on our legacy with a $40m investment in the people and places that have been part of our story, helping create more opportunities for our associates, our customers, and the communities we call home.”
Additionally, Dollar Tree is set to launch the Kindness Grant Program, which allows staff members to help with awarding grants to nonprofit organizations to make a difference in their local communities.
This move reinforces the retailer’s commitment to providing more value and serving customers and investing in local people and creating a significant difference.
