Aldi announces price drop for over 400 items over the summer

Discount retailer Aldi has announced price reductions for over 400 products over the summer as it aims to provide affordable options for Americans amid increasing pressure from inflation and tariffs.

Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi, said: “While customers may see higher prices at other retailers, we’re working hard to unlock even more value for our shoppers, just in time for summer’s lineup of holidays and gatherings where food takes center stage. It’s another way we’re doubling down on our commitment to help shoppers fill their carts with great products for less.”

The discounter plans to cut down prices on 25% of its products across its over 2400 stores in the US.

The decision is part of Aldi’s broader strategy to offer long-term low prices for customers and not just seasonal sales.

According to the retailer, its private label products and low prices give it a competitive edge ahead of other retailers.

The Germany-founded retailer is rapidly expanding its retail footprint across the US, with ambitious plans to open 800 new stores by 2028.

Scott Patton, Chief Commercial Officer of Aldi, commented: “The store growth is one of the enablers that allows us to continue the lower prices. We are 90% private label, so that gives us complete control and partnership with our suppliers, and I’d say that makes our growth different than some of our competitors. We can take those savings and pass them on to our customers.”

The discounter is planning to open 220 stores in 2025 as consumer demand for discounted goods increases. Meanwhile, other retailers, including Walmart, are raising their prices in response to additional tariffs.
