Best Buy Canada names Mat Povse as new president

Best Buy Canada has appointed Mat Povse as its new president, promoting him after more than a decade with the company.

Povse, who joined the consumer electronics retailer in 2014, most recently served as senior vice president overseeing Best Buy Retail, Geek Squad Services, and Best Buy Business.

Before his tenure at Best Buy, he spent over seven years at LG Electronics.

During his time at Best Buy Canada, Povse played a key role in launching small-format stores and expanding the company’s membership and subscription services.

Under his leadership, the retailer also strengthened its wireless and home theater divisions while driving the national rollout of major appliances.

He steps into the role following the retirement of Ron Wilson, who spent 34 years with Best Buy Canada.

“It’s really simple,” Povse said. “It’s up to all of us to create a place we love, to spend others’ time well, and to have fun while we’re at it – it’s amazing to work for a company whose values are ones not just to work by, but to live by.”

Best Buy Canada operates more than 320 locations across the country, including Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile, and Best Buy Express stores.
