Albertsons Companies is expanding its partnership with Uber to give members of its loyalty programs free access to Uber One subscription benefits.
The grocer, which first teamed up with Uber for delivery in 2021, will now offer free Uber One trials to all 48.7 million members of its for U and FreshPass programs, becoming the first major grocery chain to do so.
Members of the free for U program will receive a three-month extended trial, while paid FreshPass subscribers will get six months free.
Uber One benefits include $0 delivery fees on eligible orders, up to 10% off Uber Eats deliveries and pickups, and 6% back on eligible Uber rides.
“At Albertsons Cos., our loyalty program offers rich benefits and savings to elevate the customer shopping experience whether in-store, online or on the go,” said Terry Singla, general VP of customer strategy and engagement at Albertsons.
“We are proud to help lead the industry by making Uber One perks available to all loyalty members, not just paid subscribers, because value should be accessible to everyone.”
Albertsons has recently added several features to its loyalty offering, including “for U Travel,” a booking platform powered by Expedia that provides cash back rewards on flights, hotels and travel packages when booked through the Albertsons app or website.
“This expanded collaboration builds on the strong partnership we’ve already built between Uber and Albertsons Cos. – and makes shopping not just easier, but more rewarding,” said Hashim Amin, head of grocery and retail for North America at Uber.
Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, Albertsons operates 2,257 stores across 35 states and the District of Columbia under banners including Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb and Pavilions.
