Big Lots is officially marking its return to retail with a grand opening celebration across all of its stores on Oct. 30. Ahead of the event, shoppers can take advantage of a 10% discount on nearly all items (excluding prepaid gift cards) from Oct. 2–5.
The discounter has been steadily reopening stores under new ownership, with the final wave completed in June, bringing the total to about 219 locations across 15 states.
The revival follows Variety Wholesalers’ acquisition of Big Lots’ intellectual property and store portfolio earlier this year.
As part of its comeback, Big Lots has revamped its product mix, expanding its furniture selection to offer more styles, functions, and price points, and launching a new apparel department for the whole family.
Stores also stock everyday essentials, including grocery staples and seasonal merchandise.
“Our team has worked hard to restore the value, selection, and experience customers love,” said Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers.
“We listened to their feedback, expanded our furniture department, and brought back an exciting assortment of seasonal goods at unbeatable prices.
We encourage customers who visited stores when we first opened to come back and see our expanded selection. Our assortment of items continues to get better every day.”
Variety Wholesalers operates over 600 stores in 18 states under banners including Big Lots, Roses Discount Stores, and Roses Express.
Its acquisition of roughly 200 Big Lots stores earlier this year followed the retailer’s bankruptcy and nationwide closure of nearly 950 locations.
