Whole Foods Market to open two new small format stores

Whole Foods Market announced it will open two Daily Shop locations in the Manhattan neighborhood of New York City.

The first store is a 10,000-square-foot location set at 409 East 14th Street in the East Village’s StuyTown development and will open its doors on May 14.

The second, measuring at 8,500 square feet, is based at 301 West 50th Street in Hell’s Kitchen and is set to open on June 4.

Whole Foods stated in a press release in 2023, “In bustling hubs like Manhattan, where proximity matters, these stores will bring Whole Foods Market closer to existing customers while extending the company’s reach to others in surrounding neighborhoods.”

The grocer’s small-format stores are designed with the goal of bringing more grocery outlets close to urban neighborhoods in bigger cities.

The Daily Shop small-format stores were first launched in September 2024 in New York City’s Lenox Hill neighborhood.

The new store will feature 400 locally made products, prepared food options, baked goods, and an artisanal cheese selection from imported locations.

A Juice & Java store, which sells coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, sandwiches, and various desserts, will open its doors at the StuyTown location.

Amazon had previously acquired Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in 2017 and continues to consolidate business operations to create a single entity.

Whole Foods Market currently operates around 500 stores in the US, UK, and Canada and recently expanded its retail footprint in the UK with a new store in March 2025.
