Big Lots to reopen 132 stores in May 2025

Big Lots is making a return to the brick-and-mortar retail sector with 132 new stores set to open in May 2025, according to a company statement.

Discount retailers Variety Wholesalers had previously purchased 200 Big Lots locations in January after the company shuttered 950 stores.

Earlier this year, Variety Wholesalers announced plans to relaunch the discount retail chain with a grand opening event set to take place in the upcoming Autumn. The relaunch of the Big Lots stores is part of Variety Wholesalers’ strategic growth plan.

The expansion comes on the heels of a successful relaunch of the Big Lots stores in April.

Lisa Seigies, President and CEO of Variety Wholesalers said, “We’re excited to bring an additional 132 Big Lots locations back to life in May. The customer response to the newly expanded assortment of fresh inventory and great deals has been overwhelmingly positive.”

“The Big Lots stores opening in May show our continued commitment to providing the best value to our customers with apparel for the family, everyday needs for the home, kitchen, and pantry plus a huge selection of famous brands. I couldn’t be prouder of the dedicated team who made it possible for us to serve these communities again.”

Variety Wholesalers plans to open 132 stores in different states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Variety Wholesalers operates a portfolio of brands with over 400 stores across the US, including Big Lots, Roses Discount Stores, Roses Express, and Maxway.
