Kroger expands CIO’s role to lead new ecommerce unit

Kroger is broadening the responsibilities of its chief information officer, Yael Cosset, as it steps up efforts to grow its online business.

Cosset, who has been serving as senior vice president and CIO, is taking on the additional role of executive vice president and chief digital officer.

In this expanded position, he will oversee a newly established ecommerce division aimed at streamlining teams involved in Kroger’s digital operations.

He will continue to lead the company’s technology and data strategy, having played a key role in modernizing Kroger’s systems to support its omnichannel ambitions.

He also manages the retailer’s alternative profit businesses, including data analytics firm 84.51˚, Kroger Personal Finance, and Kroger Precision Marketing.

Before his current CIO role, Cosset was Kroger’s group vice president and chief digital officer, spearheading its ecommerce expansion.

He also previously served as chief commercial officer and CIO of 84.51° since its launch in 2015.

“Accelerating Kroger’s ecommerce growth is a top priority,” said Ron Sargent, CEO and chairman of Kroger.

“As the architect of Kroger’s digital strategy, Yael will continue to make it easier for customers to shop for our fresh, affordable food.”

Kroger generated $13 billion in e-commerce sales in 2024.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, the retailer operates nearly 2,800 stores under banners such as Kroger, Ralphs, Dillons, Smith’s, King Soopers, Fry’s, Harris Teeter, and Fred Meyer.
