Hello Fresh to close Texas distribution center and cut over 270 jobs

HelloFresh will close its distribution center in Grand Prairie, Texas, on 13 May, resulting in 273 layoffs, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The meal-kit delivery company will consolidate its operations to an Irving site after shuttering the distribution center.

The closure is part of HelloFresh’s strategy to streamline its labour structure and enhance financial performance.

A Hello Fresh spokesperson said in an emailed statement to The Dallas Morning News: “As the meal-kit market normalizes, we are now focused on diversifying our product offerings and driving profitable growth by optimizing our operational footprint.

“As a result, we have made the difficult decision to consolidate our operations in Texas.”

According to the spokesperson, the Irving facility is the “most technologically advanced fulfillment center, enabling us to offer more choice and customization to our customers.”

The company plans to offer financial support and relocation opportunities to the employees affected by the closures.

Hello Fresh has struggled to return to profitability amid changing consumerism for meal-delivery kits after the pandemic ended.

The company shuttered its distribution facility in the Atlanta area back in 2024, resulting in 727 job layoffs, and now has eight distribution centers in the US.

In its most recent financial earnings, Hello Fresh reported a 0.9% rise in revenue, which was driven by geographical expansion according to the company.

The company plans to focus on increasing profitability and cash flow generation compared to volume growth.
