Dollar General is making it easier for low-income households to buy groceries online using federal benefits.
The retailer has partnered with DoorDash to accept payments through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides food assistance to millions of Americans.
Customers can now use their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards to pay for grocery deliveries from more than 16,000 Dollar General locations via the DoorDash marketplace.
This expansion nearly doubles the number of stores on DoorDash that accept SNAP/EBT payments, bringing the total to over 35,000.
“Dollar General’s mission of serving others includes helping customers save time and money every day,” said Tony Rogers, senior VP and chief marketing officer at Dollar General.
“Unlocking the ability for SNAP/EBT recipients to shop online and have groceries delivered straight to their door through DoorDash provides even more accessibility and convenience.”
This initiative, supported by payments platform Forage, allows SNAP recipients to order eligible grocery items, including fresh and frozen foods, snacks and pantry staples, from Dollar General stores in 48 states.
While the retailer has long accepted SNAP benefits for in-store purchases, this partnership significantly expands online access for those relying on government food assistance.
“At DoorDash, our commitment to fighting food insecurity remains at the core of our mission, and we continue to prioritize unlocking more on-demand delivery options for the more than 2.4 million consumers who have added their SNAP/EBT card to DoorDash,” added Fuad Hannon, VP of new verticals at DoorDash.
“We’re proud to collaborate with Dollar General to further this commitment, ensuring even more SNAP beneficiaries nationwide can conveniently access fresh, affordable groceries with the dignity and ease they deserve.”
Additionally, DoorDash offers a discounted DashPass plan for SNAP users, providing waived delivery fees, reduced service charges, and exclusive offers for $4.99 per month.
Dollar General operates more than 20,500 stores across the US and Mexico.
