Uber Eats launches agentic AI-based grocery list tool

Uber Eats has launched a new agentic AI-based grocery list feature called Cart Assistant, aimed at simplifying how customers build their shopping baskets.

The beta tool, available within the Uber Eats mobile app, enables users to select a grocery retailer from the home screen and tap a purple Cart Assistant icon to begin compiling a list.

Shoppers can type items manually or upload an image, including a handwritten shopping list or a screenshot of recipe ingredients, and the assistant will automatically populate their cart.

Cart Assistant factors in real-time store availability, pricing and applicable promotions at the individual store level. Customers can then edit their basket, swap products or add additional items before checkout.

The system also draws on prior order history to prioritize familiar purchases, in an effort to accelerate the shopping process and increase personalization.

At launch, the feature is available across dozens of major U.S. grocery and drugstore chains, including Albertsons, Aldi, CVS, Kroger, Safeway, Sprouts Farmers Market, Walgreens and Wegmans, with additional retailers expected to follow.

In a corporate blog post, Uber CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga said the tool reflects the company’s broader AI strategy of addressing specific customer pain points with practical in-app solutions.

The company said it will use early user feedback to refine and expand the experience over time.
