After 136 years in business, Carhartt has officially opened its first New York City store, marking a major milestone in the workwear brand’s national expansion.
The 5,000-sq.-ft. store, located in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, is Carhartt’s fifth in New York state and its 57th nationwide.
The company plans to expand its retail footprint to roughly 100 US stores by 2030, according to WWD. Upcoming openings include Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Tempe, Arizona; Prosper, Texas; and Memphis, Tennessee.
The new store features Carhartt’s full range of durable apparel and gear, including footwear, accessories, and an expanded womenswear collection.
“Like so many places in America, New York City has been built by the hands of hardworking men and women,” said Chad Cornstubble, senior vice president of direct-to-consumer at Carhartt.
“We’re excited to now directly serve the Big Apple’s workforce to meet an increased need for gear that celebrates what can be made possible through hard work – both on and off the job site.”
While expanding, Carhartt remains committed to its heritage. “We may offer new colors and fits, but everything is still rigorously tested for breaks and tears,” Cornstubble told WWD. “We never waver from authenticity.”
Founded in 1889 and headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, Carhartt remains family-owned and operated by descendants of founder Howard Carhartt.
