Amazon to launch prescription kiosks in select One Medical offices

Amazon is taking another step into healthcare by allowing One Medical patients to pick up their prescriptions immediately after their appointments.

Beginning in December 2025, Amazon Pharmacy will introduce “pharmacy kiosks” inside select One Medical offices across the Los Angeles area, including downtown L.A., West L.A., Beverly Hills, Long Beach, and West Hollywood.

The company plans to expand the program to additional One Medical offices and other markets soon after.

The kiosks are designed to close the gap between doctor visits and medication access. After a provider writes a prescription, patients can choose Amazon Pharmacy for in-office pickup.

Using the Amazon app, they’ll receive a QR code to scan at the kiosk, where their prescription, reviewed by an Amazon pharmacist, will be ready within minutes.

Each kiosk will stock a curated selection of medications based on the prescribing patterns of the specific clinic where it’s located.

Through the Amazon app, patients can view upfront costs, including insurance copays and discounts, pay for their prescriptions, and consult an Amazon pharmacist via secure video or phone if needed.

“We know that when patients have to make a separate stop after seeing their doctor, many prescriptions never get filled,” said Hannah McClellan, vice president of operations at Amazon Pharmacy.

“By bringing the pharmacy directly to the point of care, we’re removing a critical barrier and helping patients start their treatment when it matters most — right away.”

Amazon acquired One Medical for $3.9 billion in 2023 as part of its broader push into healthcare. Since then, it has expanded access to virtual care and reorganized Amazon Health Services into six operational units to streamline delivery.

“As clinicians, we see firsthand how delays in starting medication can impact treatment outcomes,” said Dr. Andrew Diamond, chief medical officer at One Medical.

“The ability to know a patient is leaving our office with their medication in hand—especially for conditions requiring immediate treatment like infections—can make a meaningful difference in their care journey.”

The move comes amid growing competition in the prescription space. Walmart and Sam’s Club recently expanded same-day delivery of refrigerated medications, while major drugmakers and retailers are pursuing direct-to-consumer and discount partnerships.
