H Mart is planning its largest-ever California store, a two-level, 100,000-plus-square-foot location at Pacific Commons Shopping Center in Fremont.
The Asian grocery chain said the new store will be its biggest investment to date and its first location in Fremont. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026.
The flagship will feature H Mart’s full Asian grocery assortment alongside a food hall and dine-in restaurants, positioning the store as a destination for both shopping and dining.
“At H Mart, we strive to enrich lives through our Asian heritage, food and culture, and this new location represents a bold new chapter for us,” said Brian Kwon, president of H Mart.
“By blending elevated dining and community spaces, we are creating a premier destination for food lovers where diverse ethnicities of friends and neighbors can gather.”
Kwon added that the retailer aims to deliver a convenient “one-stop shopping” experience with high-quality food and service for the Fremont community.
Pacific Commons Shopping Center, owned by Heitman and managed by Phoenix-based Vestar, spans more than 1.1 million square feet and includes over 55 retailers and restaurants such as Target, Costco, T.J. Maxx, Nordstrom Rack and Sephora.
“This flagship H Mart further reinforces Pacific Commons as a leading retail destination in Northern California,” said Rick Hearn, vice president of leasing at Vestar.
“We are focused on welcoming experiential, destination-driven concepts that energize the center and serve the broader community.”
Founded in 1982, H Mart operates more than 100 stores across 18 states. Vestar’s retail portfolio totals more than 30 million square feet across the western U.S.
